WRS® Introductory Workshop / Overview

This workshop provides an introduction to the Wilson Reading System and is a prerequisite for all other Wilson training and support, including Wilson Academy membership.

WRS Introductory Workshop / Overview

The Overview Workshop is a ten-hour workshop that presents multisensory structured language principles and techniques of the Wilson Reading System. A Wilson trainer describes general program concepts and provides hands-on instruction in the lesson plan format. The topics include:

  • Reading research
  • Basic principles of language structure
  • How to teach language with direct, multisensory methods
  • Review and reinforcement
  • Program implementation
  • Student placement, progress and monitoring
  • Lesson planning and procedures in the Wilson Reading System – modeling and practice

Upon Completion

Participants are generally able to begin using the WRS, but are not considered trained in WRS. This workshop is the official prerequisite to further professional development with WLT.

Follow-Up Support

Introductory Workshop teachers benefit from online support provided by Wilson Academy/BASIC membership. This membership includes animated demonstrations from WRS steps 1-6, video clips, printable materials, resource links, Wilson games, frequently asked questions and discussion boards.

In-Service Introductory Workshop: For the School System

A school system or literacy program may contract for an In-Service Introductory Workshop at anytime. The maximum number of participants is 30. Cost for this service is $2,600 plus trainer expenses, if applicable, for ground / air transportation, meals and lodging. This service is provided based on Wilson trainer availability. If interested, please call (508) 368-2399.

Wilson-Sponsored Introductory Workshop: For the Individual

Note: Individuals now may register for a scheduled 15-hour Introductory Applied Methods Workshop at various locations across the country. Click here for more information. The Applied Methods Workshop provides more hands-on practical training than the Overview, but please note that individuals who attended the 10-hour Overview Workshop within the last five years have met the prerequisite requirement for further Wilson training.
