WRS® Introductory Workshop / Overview
This workshop provides an introduction to the Wilson Reading System
and is a prerequisite for all other Wilson training and support, including
Wilson Academy membership.

Introductory Workshop / Overview
The Overview Workshop is a ten-hour workshop
that presents multisensory structured language principles and
techniques of the Wilson Reading System. A Wilson trainer describes
general program concepts and provides hands-on instruction in
the lesson plan format. The topics include:
Reading research
Basic principles of language structure
How to teach language with direct, multisensory methods
Review and reinforcement
Program implementation
Student placement, progress and monitoring
Lesson planning and procedures in the Wilson Reading System
– modeling and practice
Upon
Completion
Participants are generally able to begin using
the WRS, but are not considered trained in WRS. This workshop
is the official prerequisite to further professional development
with WLT.
Follow-Up
Support
Introductory Workshop teachers benefit from online support
provided by Wilson Academy/BASIC membership. This membership includes
animated demonstrations from WRS steps 1-6, video clips, printable
materials, resource links, Wilson games, frequently asked questions
and discussion boards.
In-Service
Introductory Workshop: For the School System
A school system or literacy program may contract
for an In-Service Introductory Workshop at anytime. The maximum number of participants
is 30. Cost for this service is $2,600 plus trainer expenses,
if applicable, for ground / air transportation, meals and lodging.
This service is provided based on Wilson trainer availability.

Wilson-Sponsored Introductory Workshop: For the Individual
Note: Individuals now may register for a scheduled 15-hour Introductory Applied Methods Workshop at various locations across the country. Click here for more information. The Applied Methods Workshop provides more hands-on practical training than the Overview, but please note that individuals who attended the 10-hour Overview Workshop within the last five years have met the prerequisite requirement for further Wilson training.
