Introductory Workshop / Applied Methods |
| This 15-hour workshop presents multisensory
structured language principles and techniques of the WRS program.
It provides hands-on and practical training to teachers implementing
the WRS Intervention Model. The training includes:
Workshop Topics:
- Reading research
- Principles of language structure
- How to teach language with direct, multisensory methods
- Program implementation
- Student placement, progress monitoring, and scheduling
- Five areas of reading; phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension
- How the WRS addresses the five areas of reading
- Creating a successful classroom environment
- Block 1 – Word Study Block
- Block 2 – Spelling Block
- Block 3 – Fluency / Comprehension Block
- WRS lesson planning and procedures
- Lesson plan writing and practice
NOTE: Teachers who have previously attended the WRS Introductory Workshop / Overview
Workshop within the last 3 years are required to attend only Day
2 and 3 of the WRS Introductory Workshop / Applied Methods. |

Registration
is required before the event and is processed on a first-come,
first-served basis. Payment is due at the time of registration
and includes a continental breakfast or afternoon snack
(for half-day events). Materials are sold separately.
Payment is refundable up to 14 days prior to the event
date, less a $25 processing fee. A confirmation letter
will be sent with directions.
While we make every effort to conduct professional development
events on the dates and locations advertised, they are
subject to change without prior notice. Wilson reserves
the right to change or cancel a professional development
event due to low enrollment or factors beyond our control.
We will attempt to notify registrants to limit customer
inconvenience but we are not liable for any expenses
incurred. |

Completion |
Teachers are able to begin using the Wilson
Reading System in a reading class or small group setting with
students reading and spelling below grade level. However, participants
are not considered trained in the Wilson Reading System. The Introductory
/ Applied Methods Workshop fulfills the prerequisite requirement for Wilson Academy
membership and WRS certification training. |

| In-Service
Introductory Workshops: For the School System |
A school system or literacy program may contract
for an In-Service Introductory Workshop at anytime. The maximum
number of participants is 30. Cost for this service is $5,400
flat fee, plus materials and trainer expenses, if applicable, for ground / air transportation,
meals and lodging. This service is provided based on Wilson trainer
availability. If interested, please call (508) 368-2399 (press
3) for Professional Development.
The Introductory Workshop is currently offered through school
districts and organizations. Public Introductory Workshops may
be added in the future. Please check this website periodically
for updates. |

| Wilson-Sponsored
Introductory Workshop: For the Individual |
Individuals may register for a scheduled Introductory Workshop / Applied Methods
coordinated by Wilson Language Training. Introductory Workshops are generally
scheduled from April to October at various locations across the
country. The cost for this Applied Methods Workshop is $525 per participant. Space
is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. |
