Announcing the Launch of the Fundations Pre-K Activity Set

For more than a decade, Fundations® teachers have been building the foundational literacy skills of their kindergarten through third-grade students. Over the years, teachers have implored Wilson to bring our multisensory teaching to the preschool classroom, and at last we have done just that! During the 2014–2015 school year, the pre-K set was field tested with great success in more than 53 schools with approximately 1,600 children. As a result, the materials and our guidance are ready for your classroom.

The Fundations® Pre-K Activity Set offers an introduction, or “pre-dose,” to the letter-sound and writing skills that will be taught to mastery in the Fundations Level K program. It supports students’ emerging understanding of the alphabetic principles of letter-sound associations and alphabetical order, and the written language skill of manuscript letter formation. The skills taught align with those that the Report of the National Early Literacy Panel (2008) identified as strong and consistent predictors for the later development of literacy skills, and strongly support the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (2015).

The activity set is only a small part of a full pre-K literacy curriculum. Activities take 10–15 minutes in the first semester and an additional 5–10 minutes in the second semester.
