{"id":1336,"date":"2019-12-18T19:54:50","date_gmt":"2019-12-18T19:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wilsonlanguage.com\/knowledge-library\/success-story\/year-in-review\/"},"modified":"2025-04-08T21:17:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T21:17:38","slug":"year-in-review","status":"publish","type":"success_stories","link":"https:\/\/www.wilsonlanguage.com\/knowledge-library\/success-story\/year-in-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Year in Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As 2019 comes to an end, we not only close the books on another year of coast-to-coast literacy instruction, we complete another <em>decade<\/em> of providing\u00a0teachers with the skills and knowledge to transform the lives of students of all ages through literacy.\u00a0Individually and collectively, Wilson educators continue making a positive and significant impact in schools and districts throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0knowledge and awareness about dyslexia and the acquisition of reading skills continue to expand in the U.S. and internationally,\u00a0there is an ever-increasing\u00a0demand for effective,\u00a0evidence-based, explicit reading instruction. We are proud to be at the forefront of professional learning that addresses this need.<\/p>\n<p>During this past decade,\u00a0we launched Just Words<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> as a Tier 2 intervention for students in grades 4\u201312 with mild-to-moderate gaps in reading proficiency; enhanced and expanded Fundations<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and the Wilson Reading System<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> (WRS); created a professional learning pathway for educators that guides\u00a0schools and districts in building program sustainability; established a professional credentialing\u00a0system for WRS instructors; partnered with several colleges and universities to embed WRS into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonlanguage.com\/professional-learning\/graduate-credit\/graduate-programs\">graduate degree programs<\/a>;\u00a0and grew our\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonlanguage.com\/professional-learning\/accredited-partners\">Wilson<sup>\u00ae <\/sup>Accredited Partners <\/a><\/span><\/span>to 21 in\u00a015 states.<\/p>\n<p>This past year was equally productive. We entered into a new higher education partnership with Fairfield University in Connecticut;\u00a0collaborated with Great Minds<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> on the release of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonlanguage.com\/programs\/fundations\/materials\/supplemental-readables-geodes\"><em>Geodes<\/em><\/a><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Level 2, a readable\u00a0library that\u00a0aligns with Fundations Level 2 and Great Minds&#8217; literacy program, <em>Wit\u00a0&amp; Wisdom<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>; and expanded our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonlanguage.com\/professional-learning\/individual-teacher-support\/virtual-implementation-support\">virtual implementation support <\/a>services to reach\u00a0over 700 educators across the country.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Professional learning at all levels remains paramount.\u00a0We <\/span>also assisted several hundred school districts of all sizes\u00a0through professional learning\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonlanguage.com\/professional-learning\/school-district-implementation\/literacy-plans\">COMPASS <\/a>plans in elementary, middle, and high schools. M<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">ore than\u00a0200\u00a0educators\u00a0were certified<\/span> <\/span>as Fundations<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and Just Words<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Facilitators and Presenters\u00a0to provide ongoing support to\u00a0colleagues\u00a0using these programs. This school year,\u00a0more than\u00a0300 additional educators are pursuing these certifications. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Last<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\">year, 1,209 individuals received WRS Level I and WRS Level II certification, leading to\u00a0Wilson<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.) and Wilson<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Dyslexia Therapist (W.D.T.) credentials.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\">This year, 1,585 individuals\u00a0are pursuing WRS Level I and Level II certification. A<\/span><\/span>dditionally, 14 educators from 13 states\u00a0became certified Wilson<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Credentialed Trainers, working\u00a0within districts and at Wilson<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Accredited Partner organizations. Eleven educators are now midway through this intensive internship to become Trainers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">We are inspired by the commitment of the many organizations\u00a0providing opportunities for educators, parents, and others\u00a0to explore the latest in dyslexia research,\u00a0including the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and state IDA branches, The Dyslexia Foundation, Decoding Dyslexia state chapters, Everyone Reading in Illinois and New York, the Joseph James Morelli Legacy Foundation and numerous other professional and community groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">We close the year and the 2010s with gratitude for the difference all Wilson educators are making in the lives of their students and\u00a0their communities.
