Beth Schaper, a Literacy Advisor who joined the Wilson team in 2023, previously served as Superintendent of Schools in West Boylston, MA and as Visiting Faculty at Providence College. She also worked as a special education teacher and school principal in urban schools where she developed a keen awareness of the need for systemic approaches to school change and the desire to engage as a change agent. Beth has partnered with and taught for multiple universities, collaborating to elevate the experiences of student teachers while simultaneously enhancing professional learning opportunities for teachers in her schools as they became mentors, curriculum developers, and demonstrated their expertise during teacher rounds.

Beth’s sensibilities as a special educator have always guided her actions, instilling the courage to champion strategies for school improvement and teacher support. Using her expertise in special education, teacher education, and adult professional learning models she led the implementation of multi-tiered systems of support for mathematics and literacy, focusing on training teachers to use high quality instructional materials and progress monitoring to ensure students are learning. Beth believes that children learn best when they are in classrooms where teachers have what they need to do their best work.

Beth received her undergraduate degree in Special Education from Fitchburg State College, a Master of Education from Harvard University, a doctoral degree in Teacher Education and School Improvement from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner credential.
