Talk Before Text: Empowering Multilingual Learners Through Oral Language

Oral language is the foundation for written expression, so educators need a comprehensive understanding of oral language development amongst monolingual and multilingual learners. The session addresses both first and second language development. Participants will gain insights into common semantic and syntactic patterns that are often over-generalized and may be challenging for multilingual learners, learn and practice models of evidence-based strategies for teaching oral language, and explore processes for acquire designing and differentiating oral language lessons across the content areas based on multilingual students’ language samples.
