Children’s Privacy Notice

Last Updated: June 23, 2023

Wilson Language Training Corporation (WLT) is providing this Children’s Privacy Notice to parents of children under the age of 13 to help inform their decisions about providing permission to collect personal information from children under age 13 in order to use WLT digital products such as FUN HUB® (“Digital Products”).

Usage Data and Personal Information Collected and Consent

When interacting with Digital Products, the only data that WLT collects directly from students is usage data generated from students’ interactions with the Digital Products. We use this usage data to provide and support our Digital Products (for example, if students are having issues finding a resource, we may make that resource more prominent).

If a child is using Digital Products, WLT relies on educational institutions or educators to consent under COPPA to the collection of a child’s personal information on the parent’s behalf or to secure express parental consent. WLT receives the following additional information about the child from WLT’s customers: Name, School, Grade, Fundations® Level, and Fundations assessment scores (collectively, “Additional Information”). The Additional Information is used solely to provide our services for the benefit of students and schools. WLT combines this Additional Information with the usage data that WLT collects from the student’s use of the Digital Products.

Apart from the usage data and the Additional Information, WLT does not collect or intend to collect any other personal information from children under the age of 13. Usage data and the Additional Information is not shared with third parties except as reasonably necessary to provide our services (e.g., hosting services).

Parental consent is required for the collection, use, or disclosure of the personal information described here, and WLT does not collect, use, or disclose any personal information from a child if the parent (or the education institution or educator on their behalf) does not provide that consent. Parents may provide consent directly to educational institutions or educators through their own verifiable methods. If a parent wishes to purchase FUN HUB and use it with their own child, the purchase of a license constitutes your consent to the collection of personal information from your child.]

Additional Personal Information for Wilson Reading System (WRS) Services

If a child is working with a teacher as part of the WRS Level I or WRS Level II certification process, WLT additionally collects the following information from an educator or educational institution to provide our services: native language, handedness, learning disability status, educational history (e.g., type of reading instruction, grades retained, if applicable), observation data (WRS Level I only), and/or normative assessment scores.

This information for WRS services is only collected after the educator or educational institution has obtained express written consent from the parent or guardian of the student.

WLT Digital Products Privacy Statement

COPPA Notice to Schools and Educators

Last updated: June 23, 2023

Wilson Language Training Corporation (“WLT” or “we”) is providing this notice to educational institutions and educators working with children under the age of 13 to help inform their decisions about providing permission to collect personal information from children under age 13 on behalf of their parents, in order to use WLT digital products such as FUN HUB® (“Digital Products”).

Under the United States’ Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), digital services providers such as WLT must provide parental notification and obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13.

Consent Process when WLT’s Customer is Educational Institution

When contracting with service providers such as WLT to offer digital products solely for the benefit of students and schools, COPPA allows educational institutions to act as a parent’s agent and to consent under COPPA to the collection of a child’s information on the parent’s behalf.

In order for WLT to rely on educational institutions to consent under COPPA to the collection of a child’s information on the parent’s behalf, WLT must provide the educational institution with full notice of information collection, use and disclosure practices. To that end, please see WLT’s COPPA Notice above and also available as a footer on our corporate website.

Schools and School Districts: Before you share any student data with WLT, please ensure you or your organization has shared our Digital Products Privacy Statement to the parents or guardians of your students. By purchasing Digital Products, you affirm that you have all necessary parental consents that may be required.

Consent Process when WLT’s Customer is Individual Educator

When an individual educator (“Individual Educator”) engages WLT to offer digital products solely for the benefit of students, COPPA allows educators to act as a parent’s intermediary.  This consent must be verifiable and maintained by the educator.

Accordingly, Individual Educators must have obtained express consent from a parent or guardian of any minors, and direct consent from students above the age of majority. If you are an Individual Educator, you represent that you have the right to provide WLT with any student data you provide to us. Customers who are individual teachers must provide parents with a consent form that describes the data that WLT will collect, how that data is used, and a link to our Digital Products Privacy Statement.

Individual Educators: Before you share any student data with WLT, please ensure you have obtained written consent from the parents or guardians of your students (or direct consent from students above the age of majority). By purchasing and accessing WLT’s Digital Products, you affirm in each instance that you have obtained all such consents.
